“Close your eyes and let the mind expand. Let no fear of death or darkness arrest its course. Allow the mind to merge with Mind. Let it flow out upon the great curve of consciousness. Let it soar on the wings of the great bird of duration, up to the very Circle of Eternity.”
― Hermes Trismegistus
Welcoming this beautiful Super Moon, New Moon in Gemini and ruminating on 'communication'. What is it I need to communicate? What is it I fail to communicate? Is there a link between the two, a common cord that leaves each contingent to the other? Is this how it is with human experiences? Are we innately connected to what we are here to communicate, our message to the World ~ and are we innately connected to where we fail to communicate, and hinder our message and others from entering the World?
So many times I feared engaging in this or that because I wanted to 'be ready'; if I am not mistaken I believe I said this with my first child (ironically at the point of delivery). I remember rocking back and forth, standing upright and rigid ~ determined to hold that baby ball inside as long as possible. That was until someone alerted me to my pointless aim and informed me that I was in fact making things far more painful and difficult. This example has come to mind many times when discussing with others about 'taking-on' henna and what it means to be ready. Who's ready? Ready for what? Isn't the point to be called to something, be so consumed with interest and curiosity that you simply cannot thwart the temptation to DO IT!? Who expects anyone attempting a new thing to be an instant pro, or even a remarkable amateur, honestly? I certainly wasn't an instant pro Mom, and I haven't become one yet, that I know of. Nor was I an instant henna pro, by any stretch; doubtful anyone is!
When I am seeking to manifest, and I set my intentions to create something or foment some change ~ I may or may not have all the 'tools'. In which case, would I allow that to stop me from engaging in proactive behavior toward my goal (by any means within reason)? Or would I work with what I have and force the creativity to spill forth from the void and fear?
What if I told you that your ability to 'show-up' is half the battle to greatness, no matter what the direction or choice? What if I told you that there are most definitely others who are waiting your arrival to your 'destiny' as theirs is contingent upon your attempt and possible success? Iconic Dancer Martha Graham so eloquently speaks of this to Agnes DeMille:
“There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable it is, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate YOU. Keep the channel open.”
... and this quote truly speaks eternal, to all who wish to be or do something great.
There is a message, a gift, given to each of us; and this gift is meant to be born and shared among many. We are encouraged to suffocate our dreams or at best post-pone them until we have the perfect conditions to ensure total success. This is not a reasonable expectation, it is arrogant to expect that opportunities will remain despite our reluctance ~ why should they? Don't they have a destiny as well? Don't dreams and wishes yearn to be fulfilled, in and of themselves?
Nature abhors a vacuum ~ therefore, if you wish it, if you think it, if you want it ~ then you need it. Your wishes and desires become needs and the question is will we listen to those messages or will we silence them, post-pone them until we can guarantee outcome?
Who says you have to be a henna pro? What is a henna pro, anyways? Isn't the point of all this natural and ancient art to ground ourselves into the old ways ~ remember who we were and what was? Isn't the point, yesterday and today, to gather in circles ~ to join in celebration regardless of influence or class (ie: tools/talent)? How many women in Africa did I meet who joined together to celebrate their lives using henna and displayed zero talent ~ but 110% magical intent? Too many to mention, nearly every woman I met was of this ilk. They would wad a ball of henna in their hand and hold it firm into the bride-to-be's hand ~ often a stern look (which alarmed me to be honest) and much unspoken. It was fierce! It was impossible to forget ~ and it was everso magical.
Our goal in creating this event was to foment interest in this ancient art ~ and ultimately to get as many people using and gathering around it as possible. It is my firm belief that the more people remember the ancient art forms and delve back into esoteric arts ~ we may still have a chance to make this World better. Our ability to gather and find common reasons to celebrate, coupled with this amazing plant and fruit from the Earth, gives us great treasure for manifesting ~ not just individually but collectively. This art form allows us to build bridges with other women, other people, and other cultures; what could we possibly need more of at this time in history than reasons and ways to gather in unity, to manifest and imagine new ways of becoming, new ways of becoming better?
Where will you gather this Mid-June ~ Solstice is soon approaching, what will you seek to manifest? We hope you will be with us, mixing sacred henna, stepping-into the World of Jagua, and learning about these ancient art forms ~ delving into another manner of communication ~ one that requires little words, blessed be!
